The job

What a Sarasota paint job involves

Most of the time on a paint job goes into the surface, not the paint. A pro fills nail holes and cracks, sands glossy trim so the new coat grips, caulks gaps at baseboards and window casings, and spot-primes patches and stains. Then walls get two coats, cut in by brush at the ceiling line and rolled in the field.

Exterior work in Sarasota adds block and stucco. Hairline cracks in stucco get an elastomeric patch, chalky old paint gets washed and primed with a bonding primer, and rusty nail heads on fascia get spot-treated so they do not bleed through. Doors, shutters and railings get their own coats in a harder enamel.

Cabinet painting has the most steps of any interior job. Doors and drawer fronts come off, get degreased, sanded and primed, and dry flat before hardware goes back on. A pro will tell you from photos whether your cabinets are a paint job or a replacement job.

The difference

Painting in Florida heat, humidity and salt air

Sarasota weather sets the prep and the schedule for every paint job.

Humidity and dry time

Paint needs a dry surface. Summer mornings bring dew and afternoons bring storms, so exterior work runs in the dry hours between them.

Mildew

Shaded north walls and bathrooms grow mildew. It gets killed and washed off before paint, or it comes back through the new coat.

Sun and fading

West and south walls take the most UV. Exterior-grade acrylics with a lower sheen hold color longer on those walls.

Salt air near the Gulf

On the keys and bayfront streets, rust on nail heads, railings and door hardware gets treated or it bleeds through the paint.

HOA color rules

Many Sarasota communities approve exterior colors before work starts. Get the approval letter first; a pro can paint the sample swatch for the board.

How it works

How a painting request works

  1. Call, text or send photosCall or text (941) 207-6969, or use the form on this page. Photos of the job are the fastest start.
  2. A local pro reviews and quotesAn independent local pro looks at the photos, asks what the photos do not show, and quotes the job. Larger jobs get an on-site look first.
  3. You approve, the pro schedulesNothing starts until you approve the quote. The pro sets the price and books the visit with you directly.

What to have ready for a painting quote

  • Photos of each room or wall in daylight, including the ceiling line and trim
  • Rough room sizes and ceiling height (8, 9 or 10 foot, or vaulted)
  • The current color and sheen, or the paint can label if you have one
  • Your new color codes, or a note that you want help choosing
  • HOA approval for exterior color changes
  • Whether furniture will be moved out or stays in the room

Questions

Painting questions.

Do painters in Sarasota paint just one room?

Yes. Single rooms, one accent wall, a front door or a ceiling are normal requests. Text photos of the room and a local pro quotes it.

Should I pick flat, eggshell or semi-gloss?

Common choices: flat or matte on ceilings, eggshell or satin on walls, semi-gloss on trim, doors and bathrooms. Satin and semi-gloss wipe clean and handle humidity better than flat.

Can you paint over a water stain on the ceiling?

Only after the leak is fixed and the drywall is dry. The stain gets a stain-blocking primer first; plain paint lets it bleed back through.

Is exterior stucco painted the same way as drywall?

No. Stucco gets washed, cracks get an elastomeric patch, and chalky areas get a bonding primer before an exterior acrylic.

Who buys the paint?

Either way works. You can buy your own color, or the pro buys it and includes it in the quote. Tell the pro which you prefer when you send photos.

Do I need HOA approval to repaint my house?

Many Sarasota and Lakewood Ranch associations require it for exterior color changes. Same-color repaints often need less. Check your HOA rules before booking.
